Nick Johnson lives with his parents and his 11 -year- old brother, Danny, in Cornridge, a small village in the south of England. the village is called Cornridge because there are a lot cornfields there. Nick´s best friend is a girl called Jo. She lives five minutes from his house. Jo and nick are 14.

Max Brown is a farmer. He lives in Cornridge, too, and he´s got a big field next to Nick´s house. Farmer Brown is very strange. When Farmer Brown sees people near his field, he gets angry and he drives  his tractor at them very quikly. Jo and Nick often cycle aroun Cornridge, but isn´t safe to cycle when Farmer Brown is driving his tractor.

kitty was a young woman who was under pressure of her parents to find a husband, and she married dr walter after she met him at a party, though, she doesnt love him. they moved to shangai, where kitty met charlie townsend, and she had an affair with him, but charlie realized of that, then he gave her an ultimatum, and she travelled with charlie to china. charlie choosed a rare method of travel in order to punish kitty, so she was very tired. at first, walter and kitty barely to speak to each other. kitty felt useless so she decided to volunteer at a local orphanage in the music room. kitty realised how caring person charlie can be, because he loves children. charlie was looking for a way to stop cholera. kitty was pregnant, but she was not sure of who is the father, but charlie, said her that it doesnt matter. finally walter contracted cholera and he died, so kitty returned to london, where a few years later, she saw townsend on the street, who suggested a meeting with kitty, but she rejected it. ...
